Here is my Servant...
There is absolutely no way to copy, line-for-line, a pencil drawing onto copper and make it work. I never found a way, and in any case, I have the pencil drawing.
So I’m building this one up layer by layer of marks at different depths. I’m preaching to the chior here, I’m sure, but that’s what I’m doing. The first thing I want to do is establish a light source, or least a sense of value that is not evident in a simple line drawing. The aim is to get each figure to the point where the lines dance.

The aim is to get each figure to the point where the lines dance.

Tomorrow night I’ll draw on the other plate, the Crown of Thorns, and also have to get the Carrying of the Cross onto the plate, not just talk about it.
The layer of water-soluble stain on the plate helped me avoid the missing lines this time. Thank you, Lascaux.
