My vows to the Lord
I did a very light etch for the second proof. Just ten minutes. The directional slant of the marks on the shorter soldier in Scourging (we know that Jesus was scourged by a tall man and a short one from the marks on the body in the Shroud of Turin) give him an effect similar to atmospheric perspective. I will keep that as a way to further place him in his proper plane.
I think I overwiped ths proof a bit, but looking at the plate, I know what is going on. I always reinforce lines that get flattened out with engraving.

The Crowning with Thorns plate is different. I imagine I may put a wash ground on Jesus in later etches. The background will remain linear and all modeling will be done with line hatching. At least, that’s what I think I’ll do as I look at it tonight.
