Whoever wishes to come after me must take up his cross and deny himself.
I did a lot of scraping and burnishing for this proof. No etching bath for this one. I toyed with the idea of soft ground, but I may not need it. I’m getting the tenebrism I want without it. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.
I switched to Charbonnel Aqua Wash ink for this, after using Akua for the first three prints. Akua is good for getting an idea what is on the plate, but Charbonnel picks up every mark made on the plate, and if I want effects of light and dark, it fits the bill.
Now it is a matter of adjusting the value in the places I want it, and doing a number on the Blessed Virgin’s face. I don’t want to do an extended etch for that, so I’m going to clean it, apply a small area of Future Floor Polish in that area, draw and then apply the etching solution with just a cheap paint brush. Etch it for maybe two minutes and that’s it. It’ll give me a very delicate effect, I think! 🙂
